Aims, Values and Ethos

At Scargill Junior School, we aim to:

  • Deliver a broad, balanced curriculum, where children are encouraged to develop understanding, knowledge, skills and creativity.
  • Cultivate links between the school, home and wider community.
  • Promote confidence, responsibility and independence, and to develop a mutual
    respect and consideration for all, regardless of race, gender, culture or ability.
  • Enable each child to achieve their unique potential within a safe, happy, caring,
    learning environment.

Our Scargill Values

PRAISE

The school community indentified a set of six core school values - PRAISE. These are explicitly taught and contribute to the development of our positive school ethos and culture for teaching.

The six values are:

Perseverance

Respect

Aspiration

Independence

Sensitivity

Enthusiasm

Ethos

These school values then underpin our ethos by:

  • creating a calm and purposeful environment in which everyone feels valued;
  • creating a culture which is open, honest and harmonious;
  • supporting the development of good quality relationships between all members of the school community;
  • helping pupils to understand themselves through an awareness of their inner selves;
  • encouraging pupils to develop their positive dispositions and to choose ther attitudes;
  • developing emotional intelligence.

"The values help to make our school extra special."

"They help me to tackle problems and accomplish things I may have found difficult."

"They help me to not give up. To do things I thought I couldn't do or to do better."

"They give me an extra something to work towards."
